I understand their reluctance to to give out anything regarding the design of the new reactor, but "in an advanced stage" tells us nothing about its readiness. I was hoping for detail regarding the refractory lining because I work with castable refractory and moulds on a daily basis. My understanding is that is it requires a specific diameter and thickness of casting(s) to be fabricated. This would mean design and fabrication of mould(s) to then create a casting(s), once cured to be inserted into the reactor shell then carefully fired to (and beyond) service temperature.This is a specialized field, but is part of what attracted me to the tech. 900C is a relatively low temp and sacrificial refractory castings would have far greater longevity at these low service temperatures. I just feel they could have given out more detail regarding the progress and readiness of the heart of the system.
