China is deeply embedded in Zimbabwe with extensive agricultural holdings and other interests. It is no coincidence the current leader of Zimbabwe was in China when the coup that deposed Mugabe took place. In my opinion the best JV partner for this project would be a Chinese O&G company. It might be high risk longer term but given the dynamics of Africa generally and Zimbabwe especially, I think any other JV partner might find the political and operational going tough should the project turn out to be the bonanza we hope it is.
