I did forward this article to a medical doctor friend of mine in Europe and he did mention in his reply mail to me the following (rough translation into English):
"Science (incl. medical science) often gets things completely wrong for some time and keeps going at it that way. Personally, I would not really be surprised if AD would turn out to be caused by an infectious etiology."
