This is wrong on many levels. We're going through moass extinctions of plants and animals due to climate change that is affecting all kinds of systems including water access for plants but also animal migration and food sourcing. It's quite possible that fragile ecosystems (eg buckwheat) are already on borrowed time, the rat attack on buckwheat is an example of this and is happening across lots of different species and ecosystems. It's possible that the rat attack was influenced by human activity (ie INR presence in the area) but also possible and perhaps even likely (I don't have enough info to know this) that it was an event that would have happened anyway.

The only key thing that we definitely know is that with INR there'll be significant investment in conservation research and support for buckwheat, and without INR there won't be. It's pretty simple.
