I have pondered the possibility for rare earths on this land but this is still a left field discovery. The company says first in the area, which is true for close in to Rand but we need to keep in mind that ASM is not that far away with the Dubbo zirconia project which is a major rare earths project albeit hard rock so rare earths are certainly present in the region.
ASM released news this week updating their estimation for plant, $1.8 billion off top of my head, and wasn't received all that well so we might have some early head winds here. However it's unquestionably a significant development, particularly with the fact that they've proven weak bonds here = simple splitting to extract the rare earths present, like ionic clays. If there's scope for scale of deposit of these weakly bonded REEs, this could be a major development because it won't be ASM/LYC type capital to develop and extract.
@setfire2thehive, you've had KTA on monitor for Mt Clere and possible ionic deposit there, what are your thoughts on this initial position for Rand?
