Others might like to share their feeling / experience on this strategy for these bad news announcements.
I hear news like we did before open and see trading significantly down. Out of stubbornness or optimism I decide I'll hold for the medium (or whatever) term. I now think that the best strategy has been to sell at the open and then buy back on the close as it - in my memory/ experience - gives a lower price. It might be that I'm better to never buy back but that's way harder to get right so I'm ignoring that aspect.
