Well, I actually think that cplat has given you exactly the wrong advice. If you are young you can roll with the punches and you can learn and you can build your portfolio up much much better than by using index funds... if you want to have mediocre performance and less stress , it could be the way to go but you will likely not get rich--- unless you are a very stringent saver
