I'll also be looking at February with a lot of interest. Not much to do with the dividend though. It's more to do with how they report and the content in their outlook. It's clear to everyone that the playing field has changed and has been changing for more than a year now. We all try to assess the impact on IFL of the remediation costs and how large it will be, the seamlessness of the transition of ANZ clients across, the effect of the loss of large numbers of advisors to the industry in general, the impact of the rule tightening on the advisory business, the downside risk of customer attitude as a result of the Royal Commission and quite a few other items as well. I'm not comfortable that I can easily estimate the stock's worth against all of these uncertainties. So I want the outlook to provide a clinical definition of future growth (or otherwise) in their outlook. I don't want more about "working to earn your trust" and "stabilise, transform and prosper". If in February, they can't explain what future profits are going to look like, albeit in broad terms, they either don't know or do know and don't want to say. In such circumstances I'll take my risk off the table.
It's time now for them to have a handle on their future and to advise accordingly.
