That’s right — this was the first new coal mine approved by the ALP government. Predictably, the usual mob (green groups, the Australia Institute, etc) moved swiftly to attack the decision and Plibersek was noticeably cautious in her announcement, stating that project proposals will continue to be considered on a case-by-case basis, in accordance with the law. There’s no certainty that future proposals for new mines will be approved and for that reason, it would be wise to convey our support for Plibersek’s latest decision (if only to counter-balance the inevitable attacks).
