When stocks are as bashed down as WBC it tends to go up even with announcement like this, because there is nothing more people fear than uncertainty. This give investors updated figures and thereby knowledge of what to expect which, even when it is negative, is better than uncertainty... behavioural finance.. you gotta love it.
on a side note, I personally will continue to invest in WBC for another six months. In five years this is all way behind us and interest rates will have hiked up somewhat again.
