I asked the team at Jaxsta about this when the email was sent to me with new pricing. They were very quick to respond. Still the $49USD is the price moving forward and does not include the discount for the first 1000 sign-ups that they promoted in the email. Which makes me think/hope that they'll surpass the 1000 paid subscribers pretty quickly. Was looking through the Songtradr website yesterday and interestingly their Pro Paid option is also $49USD per year. Maybe they've been connecting over the best value range for paying customers to remain sticky. Initially I didn't like the $49 pricing. Especially when I'd done my calculations based off the projected $149 they'd talked about. But now I actually love it. Especially if you're getting the upfront capital from annual subscribers that just keep rolling over each year. Getting an industry on board with your value product without backlash over "ripping them off" is critical. So many musos LOVE discogs (and allmusic), and they're free for seeing credits etc. Yes they're not official credits. But they are really well respected, and trusted. It might take time for musos to see how Jaxsta differs, and to trust in the value the platform brings to them as pros. But when they do I think they'll be more than ok with stumping up $49 a year to access all the extra features the Pro option brings (features discogs doesn't offer).
