I think it's a good move by the new board / Beth.
If Jaxsta's serious about generating AD and e-commerce revenue, they need to know who the 'real' users are, profile them, and gather stats on their usage and interests to properly target the ADs. Anonymous browsing isn't that useful - advertisers can't be sure their products are of interest to anyone.
It's also a good move to limit free searches but I'm not sure 5 is the magic number? I don't think 10 bucks/mo or 49 per year is too much to pay though if you really need more than 5 searches and are not just browsing because you've got nothing else to do. They might have arrived at 5 from some analysis. In any case, this is just the start, things can be fine-tuned later.
