I can see both sides to these petty arguments.
I can see how short term volatility might be a roller coaster ride for novice investors (or anyone for that matter). But Jack seems to be one of those investors that just cruises down the river and enjoys the scenery without worrying about all the sudden drops and sharp turns.
Honestly, each to their own. If you can afford time in the market, then short term volatility isn't so much of an issue.
Jack might be laughing all the way to the bank in a few years, whilst everyone else has seen their doctors prescribe them blood pressure medication.
