While there is Green Sentiment, the reality is that we are still largely fossil fuel-based. We are not in a position to 'just turn off the wells'. Agreed that a transition to other energy sources will occur - I am not aware of any 'turn key' system(s) available worldwide ready to go. Transition to new energy sources and phasing out of fossil fuels will be a 10-year process if not longer.

There are many products that don't have an economic green alternative such as tyres (go back to rubber plantations?), plastics (can be synthesised from plant-based materials - but these products are often not cheap and not always biodegradable), so much of agriculture including fertiliser (how we grow our food) relies on fossil fuels and its derivatives.

While it is simplistic to say 'stop using fossil fuels' and have a carbon-neutral world - we just ain't there yet. The food shortages that this would create would be catastrophic.

I find it curious that so many people claim they want a carbon-neutral world, yet now Covid is ending and the world is opening up - funny how so many people are now booking airline tickets! I wonder what jet engines use for a fuel source? As far as I am aware, we don't have electric-powered jet engines.
