Why do you feel that there will not be a gas shortage? The Eastern Gas pipeline is too small even when expanded to met NSW's needs. QLD and SA gas from the Cooper that usually comes via the Moomba pipeline will not be available as that pipeline capacity is being used for the LNG plants in QLD. It is not a matter of the companies just paying more, as nearly every molecule of gas in the Cooper from a producing field is under contract.

Frankly the cost to households of gas for heating and cooking is a minor side show to the real event; which is the lack of consistent supply available for manufacturing and industry.

The prices of bread milk and meat are directly linked to the cost of their inputs; the primary one being energy. In effect, a lack of supply from within NSW will act as a pseudo tax on industry (farmers, bakers, dairy farmers, the meatworks etc etc) and therefore the end consumer.

You may not feel that piped gas is cost effective - but in the NR you pay multiples of what you would from the M-S pipeline. Metgasco could supply via micro LNG or CNG - bottled at the wellhead without transport costs from overseas and across the state.

Am I correct in saying that you are primarily opposed to this industry because you do not feel that there is a need for new gas supply?
