Not all of Norco's milk is produced in the Northern Rivers. It's transported from an area north of Brisbane to as far south as Dungog, presumably because there are not enough farms in the Northern Rivers or not enough farms that are profitable.

Mr McNamara, the Chairman of NORCO, stated in his Parliamentary submission that farm sizes on the North Coast may vary from 5 acres (a hobby farm) to 200 acres. 5 acres is not a farm, let alone profitable.

Cost competitiveness will likely bite Norco when the Gloucester dairy farmers benefit from the largesse of AGL gas supply.
