Something much lighter and useless. Eridanus pit will supply most of MM's gold for the next four years. Where did the name Eridanus come from? Many of MM names are astronomical. Galaxy, Milky Way, Morning Star (Venus) and of course Eridanus. Eridanus, the River, is one of the 88 constellations that make up the visible stars in sky. It is north? of the Southern Cross towards Orion, the Hunter.
The main star in Eridanus is Achernar. To find it look along the longitudinal axis of the Southern Cross, and about 7 times that distance of that axis, is Achernar, one of the 22 stars that are of the first magntitude (brightest). Half way between these two points is roughly due south. Unlike the North Star we have no stars near the South Celestial Pole. This is one way to find true south.
