The 10 acres of buckwheat in the 2,000 acre South Basin will be fully protected, day and night. Millions have and will be spent, no risks will be taken as this would jeopardise the mine.

INR will be seen as the standard bearer for responsible mining, in all respects.

Without INR, who will look after the plant?

February 2022 release couldn’t be clearer:

“Today’s proposed critical habitat proposal is in line with ioneer’s expectations and prior announcements, and the Company continues to fully support the FWS’ efforts regarding the ongoing management and protection of Tiehm’s buckwheat populations at Rhyolite Ridge, including an ESA listing. This anticipated development has no material impact on our planned mining activities.

The buckwheat species is found along the western margin of the Company’s Rhyolite Ridge Lithium-Boron ore deposit (‘Rhyolite Ridge’ or ‘the Project’) in Esmeralda County, Nevada. It is our understanding that the proposed critical habitat at Rhyolite Ridge is primarily focused on providing an area to support the pollinator (insect) population that is an important and necessary resource for the plant, hence the much larger critical habitat (910 acres) compared to the area occupied by the plant (10 acres).

Mining activity is allowable within areas designated as critical habitat with the prior approval of the FWS and US Bureau of Land Management (BLM). ioneer has already taken this into account with its planning and proposed operations and continues to work closely with both agencies to ensure its proposed activities will not jeopardise the conservation of the species.”

Endangered Species Act

During the listing process, economic factors cannot be considered, but must be " based solely on the best scientific and commercial data available." The 1982 amendment to the ESA added the word "solely" to prevent any consideration other than the biological status of the species.

There are significant precedents showing that the proposed critical habitat is generous compared to other listings, supported by the best available science. This is an objective fact and actually helps INR as it blocks later action for spurious reasons.

The full force of US government is helping make this project come to life. The US needs it. The planet will be better off as a result. The buckwheat will be protected and prosper. The activists have achieved their purpose.
