Wurlitch - You are conflating two factors, (1) the weight % of Nb in Nb2O5, and (2) the overall metallurgical recovery of Nb during the process of converting pyrochlore ore to ferroniobium. As for the 2.5 T/m3 figure - it is simply too high for a near surface supergene weathered layer - they'd probably have to blast to excavate if it was that high. I'll leave it at that.
