I’m assuming the absorbers can’t handle the total input flow while in series. But they expect they will handle half the input flow each while in parallel. In the case of a shut down or damage to one of the absorbers in parallel, maybe the other can handle for a short time at full input flow or the input will need to be scaled back while the other is repaired. At least the plant is still operational and doesn’t need to be fully shutdown in this situation.
