'Devilish' clever to pick up an industry that the USA once dominated but gradually discarded. Reagan/Thatcher economics handed China a good.start.
Simply by applying effort, research and capital they now dominate an industry essential to our survival..
A planned national approach, similar to that of China, to develop and capitalise our materials, would help overcome our disadvantages of distance and population. Keating's brilliant Super Funds could supply a % of capital. Interlinked IXR should benefit.
