I have looked at that. The issue seems to be the snti avoidance legislation and that the ATO will ignore it until you repatriate the money. I have been talking to an ex colleague there to form an unlisted investment company for people to invest in and you only pay tax on dividends. It does seem a no brainer but then last year there was JA doing the numbers on CGT and it looked very likely you would end up with CGT anyway. Now that she admits she doesnt have the numbers it could be an option.
Yes you are totally correct that the tax polcies here are so complex and involved we do sometimes take devisions based upon the tax implications. We also have arate of tax slightly north of 45% versus ,I think, 33% there.
