With the recent increase in the Chinese position, it is hard to imagine someone outside China for the battery materials.
However I think Airbus or a non-Chinese partner in scandium is possible, and frankly I would prefer it.
However the recent developments with the company make it appear to me that Friedland is making his bed completely on the Chinese side...the recent EPC deal on Sunrise, the move into Ivanhoe Mines, the research partnership with Chongqing, the existing equity with Pengxin.
Like it or not, Friedland seems to be going all-in with China.
