Discussion
The current underground diamond drilling program is comprised of several parts which include geotechnical/infrastructure advance, resource definition and exploration. Results received to date are from the initial geotechnical/infrastructure component and the programme will now progress to cover resource definition (initially Queens lode) and for the first time, deeper exploration targeting mineralisation 150-300m below deepest historical workings. Previous drill results (announced to the ASX:CTL, 2 November 2017 “Centennial Mining Limited” from the Queens Lode included:
A1UDH-325: 11.9m @ 16.3 g/t gold L7-008: 25.0m @ 7.3 g/t gold
The program includes 5 sub-programs which represents specific zones of the Queens Lode that require infill drilling, strike extension, width / depth delineation and the identification of the plunge of high-grade mineralisation trends. This first batch of drilling results (Table 1) were not targeting the actual Queens Lode but were focussed on sterilising the planned decline position and providing geotechnical information for the future development.
The Queens Lode (Figure 3) represents the most advanced bulk tonnes exploration target with well-defined resource potential. The previous drilling coverage does not inform the width of mineralisation within the A1 Dyke Bulge or define down-dip plunge direction for high grade shoots. The broader objective of this drilling program is to establish Mineral Resource Estimate for the Queens Lode which includes fully understanding the strike and mineralisation extension within the A1 Mine as well as provide further geotechnical data.
The bulk tonne/wider lode nature of the Queens Lode may provide the opportunity to increase and supplement the current production provided by air leg mining techniques that currently exploit the narrow vein high-grade lodes. The wholly owned processing plant at Maldon has excess capacity available to treat a substantially increased rate of production.
Gold mineralisation within the Queens Lode is defined as a strongly hydrothermal carbonate altered (bleached) and sericitised quartz diorite dyke with disseminated pyrite. Gold is mostly distributed as fine grains within pyrite and less commonly visible gold within narrow quartz vein structures.
