ALK is small producer and explorer. ALK's main growth will come from developing discoveries they make.
So the big payout will be Boda/Kaiser transaction or staged development. Or other discoveries. Once ALK starts to pay divis the there will be another payout bit. But until then the only drive for the SP and the company is the exploration success. Simple.

During the interview he said something along the lines of what matters most is the production and making profit - this is great.

But as an explorer (he claims that's what ALK is) the production is very important but so is the exploration success which is the other half of this business. And what did he say about anything else - it's gloss and spin. Well, when you are small producer and keen explorer then besides production anything else in your business is exploration so would you describe half of your business as gloss and spin?
