I used perplexity AI to rewrite a post I was putting together to respond to why the market is skeptical - so here it is with one correction I made for accuracy: lol

G'day mates! Just wanted to share some thoughts on the carbon capture scene, particularly what's happening with Occidental Petroleum (Oxy) and how it might relate to our own projects in Canada.

Oxy's got this massive direct air capture (DAC) project called Stratos on the go in Texas. It's meant to suck up 500,000 tonnes of CO2 annually once it's up and running mid-202516. Sounds impressive, right? But here's the kicker - the market's not buying it. They're dead skeptical about carbon capture in general, and Oxy's share price is copping it.

Now, Oxy's keen on this tech because they want to use the captured CO2 for Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR). Smart idea in theory, but the economics are looking a bit dodgy. They can get the CO2, sure, but at what cost?

Even with Warren Buffet backing Oxy big time, the market's still not convinced. And with the US political landscape being what it is, who knows what'll happen to the economics of these projects?

But here's where it gets interesting for us. Our situation in Alberta is a whole different kettle of fish. We've got carbon supply sorted, shorter pipelines, and experience with CO2 sequestration and injection8. The economics and risks are chalk and cheese compared to the US.

Take the Alberta Carbon Trunk Line project, for example. My back-of-the-napkin calcs reckon it costs about 5 cents Canadian per kWh to handle and sequester CO2 from a bitumen syngas plant near Edmonton. That's using the rectisol process, mind you, not amine.

So, while the Yanks are struggling with their DAC dreams, we might just be sitting pretty with our more practical approach. It's all about location, infrastructure, and experience - and we've got the goods.

What do you reckon? Is carbon capture the way forward, or are we barking up the wrong tree? Chuck your thoughts in the replies!
