OK, but KPO technology would be suitable for shallow, relatively low temp hot aquifer geothermal and the Quartz article is about deeper hot rock geothermal which operates quite differently.
That is actually a positive because there are quite a few shallow hot aquifers around and it's much cheaper to tap them than drilling over 2km deep into hot rock.
