It is indeed, GE. And it was even before it became Karajini back in the 1950's/60's when I lived nearby.
Us old buggers dont like change, and I loved the area the way it was back then.
I hate the way they re-routed the NW Highway past Newman, bypassing the old Mundiwindi Telegraph station and Ethel Creek. You used to drive up past Mundiwindi, go to Ethel Creek and then North to Roy Hill Station, or West to Marillana and then to Hedland/ Roebourne via Wittenoom . I was sitting in the dirt at Ethel Creek turnoff having a cup of billy tea the night (our time) JFK was killed. News came over the old valve radio in a Mercedes prime mover of a mate from Marble Bar.
Gold? The only gold (reported) in the area at that time was at Mt Bruce (from memory).
