I guess if you are actively employed in other pursuits that you enjoy being a passive buy and hold investor is a good option.

Your accountant is wrong, I checked with the ATO, such lovely music, and there are no restrictions on trading shares within a SMSF either as an individual or trust one. Super Companies do it all the time
