I think that logic is a little flawed. If you think the sp is undervalued then a buy back is effective use of capital in the longer term and good for shareholders. Tightening the structure when the opportunity presents itself is just another form of capital management.
As for all this moaning about shorters?? I guess if you are in at higher levels their perceived capping of the price must be frustrating but I'm in at lower levels so I just see them as future buyers and given the price has been trending higher when those shorts are closed it will strengthen the buy side even further. This stock is going higher just not overnight.
