If SVM becomes a takeover target for RIO, this is usually the best thing for SH.
One exception to this is if a company is taken out on sale, but it doesn't seem like this will be possible for SVM.
They would need to offer SH/relevant parties a number that is hard to say no to.
For argument's sake (this is number plucking with no calculations), if RIO were to offer $1 and this was rejected, they either revise their offer higher or engage in a hostile takeover (HTO), simply buying the company from the market. The SOI isn't too bad, which makes this option possible, but it is still slightly on the high side.
In my opinion, if RIO sees SVM as a target, this probably won't go through an HTO. It is more likely that a decent number is offered and accepted. At most, a revised offer will be offered and accepted.
Other than this, the number won't be enough, and it will be BAU.
I am sure some people here have already calculated what they would be happy with.
