CCUS gets government's support, new CCUS law expected

Meanwhile, more than $4 million will be allocated to establish a Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage (CCUS) industry in WA, as a new study reveals the State's enormous potential as a carbon storage hub, according to the government.

The study, commissioned and co-funded by the WA LNG Jobs Taskforce and undertaken by CSIRO and the Global CCS Institute, has found that WA can store its own carbon and turn existing infrastructure into CCUS hubs.

The $4.3 million funding aims to accelerate the advancement of proven CCUS technologies in WA by supporting new technology research and attracting investment for the industry.

The state government is expected to introduce legislation for the transport and storage of greenhouse gasses by the end of the year.
