Good post. I have acquired 8 companies in my career so far for large multinationals and know the M&A process well. Usually these engagements when done with a small company have a large trailing cost (% of the deal done) vs have a massive upfront costs. When they are taken up by larger companies you tend to pay ongoing fees and then negotiate a smaller deal fee (say if I am MNC hunting around for potential acquisitions in a space).
And taking the above model into account, the M&A advisories are selective on small companies who they deal with because they make their real money when a deal is done.
