KPT will not make any money at all exporting through these other two ports. Its next potential money spinner key is to value add on the island - power generation which would be well received by the natives. Perhaps the go is to take a breath now and continue exporting by these two ports and genuinely look at a port further west which is very doable but has been opposed by KPT because it will take time to get it across all hurdles. KPT says 4 years for approval. I agree. But with the toasted timber situation we have that time now.
I suspect key opponents (Council, green army, Yumbah et al) would come around to supporting the timber industry on KI exporting if it stayed out west.
The thing going for KPT near term is that exporting via Penneshaw will get the natives there hostile to the log trucks as that port is already causing disruption as the only freight service to the island. I don't think enough though to get the anti Smith Bay brigade ceasing to oppose it.
Interesting times.
I'm holding again expecting the possibility of timber country returning to traditional farming. If KPT exec can go with that we should all get $2 a share this year as we wind up the company.
