They needed to make this deal to fast-track production. The world is changing - and very quickly - to this new lithium-powered reality, and so a deal like this (for a lot of cash, even regardless of the 'true value' of the asset) ensures that they will be able to do that.

SQM brings a lot of other things to the table (not just money) one of which is operating at scale.

I'd suggest that after the froth settles (perhaps in the next half hour) you'll see a slow grind upwards to 80c, with a close somewhere between 80-85c. This is respectable, and acknowledges that a deal was made, and money will be exchanged (subject to various) - whether or not it's the best deal is another question.
