A lazy afternoon reading a bit about SX/EW. I have no real experience in investigating extraction methods so bear with me. I found a 2002 article about the SX/EW process for zinc extraction. https://www.saimm.co.za/Journal/v102n08p451.pdf
This suggests the process for zinc is quite new (in 2002) but the Anglo American’s Skorpion project next door in Namibia (sold in 2010 for $700M) was aiming to produce 150,0000 t/a at a cost of $0.25/lb with a plant cost of $450M. Should follow up with later production info but the slow internet is killing me.
