Australian companies. They may be subsidiaries of a foreign company, but they are Australian companies and will be acting for all sorts of holders, not just foreign, also Australian. lots of Australian funds and banks etc use HSBC, Citi etc to provide custody - its big business, margins are relatively low but its a big business that requires scale.
