I don't think there is any deliberate force in play to suppress the price, I think a lot of retail investors are tired of waiting for the USD gold price to breakout.
I think also to attract genuine interest,developers producing in USD have to show they can be profitable at lower gold prices.
AZM is moving in the right direction to improve the project metrics, if they can find some thick intersections at higher grades this will really move IMO.
