H2SO4 is a cheap reagent and the purity of the precursor salt (reportedly lower deleterious cations) appears to outperform previous bench scale work, so 4N production by the same gas sparging/calcine method already proven by Playa One is to be expected.
I'm hoping for a positive Scoping Study on the basis of low reagent cost. Half the OPEX for HPA is reagent and utility cost eg: A4N's PFS. So, cheap reagent and low temperature processing should = lower OPEX.
CAPEX estimates from QPM's recently proposed 4000tpa HPA plant are modest at $90M (2023 prices). If you can get OPEX below current producers at $6-8000/t and recieve $25k+/t HPA, then the business case for a similar CAPEX would be compelling.
