did someone know about the news (on both occasions) - my view is 100%. that's very obvious and no matter how much someone will try to tell me otherwise, I will not believe it.
about not knowing what the news was - I am not so sure. If they did not know, why didn't they pay 17c, 18,c or over 20c? Why not chasing the SP even higher. They stopped at 16c as they kind of worked it out it was not worth chasing it higher as it may not give them profitable exit. If the grades read 37m @ 5g/t Au and 55g/t Ag, do you think they would have stopped at 16c?
all my own thoughts - pure speculation.
