Territory Generation's gas-powered generating system is being rendered unprofitable by rooftop solar. They are looking to reduce gas consumption and install big batteries in Darwin and Katherine to balance.
While CTP is protected in the short and medium term by take-or-pay contracts with the NT government, demand from one of its local foundation customers with low transport costs is set to fall over time. NT will now compete even more with CTP by seeking to sell its surplus contracted gas into the NGP.
This is not about 'beliefs' or climate change, so please spare us from idle and empty opinions on these matters. This is about developments in consumer behaviour, their impact on the NT's generating kit and the growth of a price-insensitive NT gas supplier.
