it looks like there might be an alternative but it's not optimal. it sounds like the problem is the supply of rare earths. they're saying they can't get enough. and if they've got to scale it could be a problem. but rare earths will still be in demand. and it could be a ploy to keep the price down whilst Tesla's still using it. that's my take.
