Not a dumb question. I would say it has a binary element in terms of "failure" i.e. there is no significant difference in outcome between the treated patients and the placebo controls. However there are varying grades of "success", from all the treated patents showing significant improvement in symptoms (maybe the equivalent of 5 years of disease progression) to only the last cohort showing halting of progression. But there are a lot of combinations in between.
