In a perfect world, people might be able to cough up $10k for treatment. But in the current environment, I would say many people will simply suck it up before the debt eating away their soul. So maybe take the estimation as a pinch of salt.

Just FYI, this analogy can be applied to any kind of business, so he is simply stating the obvious.

IMO with mental health it's pretty hard to just suck it up, $10k could be seen as cheap if it gets the patient being a productive person back into the workforce or just living a better life.
