the course is now all but set for us, but ...

it does annoy the c**p out of me that Simon said we had no leverage. we did have one huge lever, and that was stopping construction. we could have brought it all to a screaming halt. many had suggested it -- "why are we still building this thing?" -- and I still think the only way to negotiate with these crooks was to play hardball.

instead we politely built the mine for them, never missed a pay check, paid their millions in ransom, signed it over to Ganfeng, and still paid all our taxes nice and early.
