    You can absolutely tie the most recent purchase (say 2018) with the initial purchase in 2015 and treat that as a CGT event and therefore get benefit of 50% discount if held longer than 12months. As long as we are talking about the same share class e.g. IMU heads, then that is fine. Buying 1000 IMU heads and selling 1000 IMUOB for example is not a CGT event.

    What you have described is other asset classes like property or art.
