Apologies i am obviously terrible at explaining !!
If i buy the same shares as follows:
1000 x share - 16 months ago
1000 x share - 9 months ago
1000 x share - 6 months ago
1000 x share -3 months ago
Only 1000 of those shares will attract the 50% CGT discount. the remainder will pay full CGT.
So if i was to sell 4000 shares the first 1000 i can claim the CGT discount, the remainder i cannot.
The above is my accountant has been doing it for over a decade now, so again if has balls it up i will be cranky !
