I liked this posting by Brownbox in general and I agree with the sentiments that KM is not the answer, but I particularly liked and agree with that one little priviso - (albeit small). I have made a similar point before in my posts. Unfortunately it really is the devil you know.
The real answer is new talent, not to replace the board but to supplement the board. I know from a friend that this team does tend to resist engaging skills greater than they have, a sign of insecurity in the directors, because a great board hires the best talent they can find and afford. I suspect that this single factor, directors who are always concerned about whether new talent will replace their jobs, and therefore not hiring them, is the main thing holding them back.
All I know, is that the company should have shot skyward by now and it has not.
