While I agree with most of the above, I think that to say Mr. Crook "was punted" by the remaining directors is not accurate. I have refrained from commenting on the departure of our ex CEO but the scenario looks pretty obvious to me. The financial report was voted down by shareholders decisively. If the directors wanted to avoid mayhem at the next AGM they had to make substantial savings in remuneration of senior people. Since a large part of that remuneration went to David, unless he was prepared to accept a large reduction, it was unlikely that shareholders would be mollified. For whatever reason, pride, ego, perceived better opportunities elsewhere, lifestyle reasons, he declined to accept a reduction in remuneration and the rest is history.
