In order for the takeover to complete, 75% of shares and 50% of shareholders must vote yes. If you are correct, then that won't happen and the fuss has been for nothing. If however, the vote succeeds then clearly the majority of shareholders wanted to sell.
I guess we wait until the end of next week to find out.
